It is not good dentistry for a veneer to be put on the tooth without any preparation. If the tooth has no preparation, than the veneer will not seal, and cavities will begin to form under the veneer. Certain popular brands of veneers market themselves as needing no grinding of the teeth, i.e. no tooth preparation, but those types of veneers are not going to produce good long term results.

Veneers will not work on teeth that are very crooked. However, often times crooked teeth can be straightened out and a nice cosmetic result can be achieved with full crowns. Veneers do have the weakness of being more prone to chip, crack, and can be more easily knocked off. If this is a concern, a zirconium crown would be a much better choice.
